Historia 1991-2024

Our Story

From 1982 to 1991, a company called Plastic Tool Oy operated in Kaarina, which was the tool unit of Saloplast Oy from Salo, Finland. The tool unit manufactured and maintained injection molds for mass production. As the business cycle weakened, Saloplast decided to shut down the unit in 1991, when six of its employees bought the company and Camteam Oy was founded. CAM was an important step of the design process and we, the entrepreneurs, were six close friends = team. We bought some injection molding machines and it was time for action.

We worked through the first busy year by making production molds. In 1992, Camteam jumped into the telecommunications business by producing injection-molded prototype plastic parts for mobile phones, for both Nokia and Benefon. It can be said that the first plastic parts for almost all mobile phones developed in Salo, Tampere and Oulu in the 90s were manufactured here in Kaarina. This constituted almost 90% of the entire company's turnover at that time. In the best years, more than 100 prototypes were made.

In the 90s, there also started to be a demand for the production of small series, because many big competing plastic companies were not interested in them. Camteam thus acquired a nice customer base and the operation expanded and the premises started getting small - it was time to find new facilites. In 1997, we found a property with plots on Rakentajantie, extensive renovations were made, and the same year we put the premises into use.

The entire 90s was a period of strong growth for Camteam. This was the period when mobile phones started getting 2-component plastic parts. Camteam jumped into this fast-moving development and in 1998 the company acquired the first 2-component injection molding machine. Since then, the company has invested more in this technology and in 2001 a 3-component injection molding machine was already put into production use.

Today, Camteam is one of Finland's leading multi-component suppliers. The company has more than 30 years of experience in the field. More than 150 different multi-component molds have been produced. Currently, there are around 50 different multi-component plastic parts in production. In 2010, a large 400 tonne 2-component injection molding machine was purchased and the production of large technical equipment boxes began.

Camteam's customers are mostly world-class companies. These include e.g. GE Healthcare, Oras, Beamex, KaVo Kerr, Vaisala, Mirion, Planmeca, Polar, Fiskars, Ensto, Nordic ID, etc. Most of the plastic parts produced by the company have ended up outside the borders of Finland by Camteam's customers.

Camteam has made significant investments to improve product development capabilities. The company acquired Autodesk's Moldflow software, which can be used to analyze the geometries of the plastic part and simulate its manufacturability and mold functionality in advance. In addition, Camteam has acquired the modern and efficient Siemens NX design software. With these tools, Camteam will be able to serve its customers even better in the future. In mold manufacturing, the machine base has been kept up-to-date and the size has been increased, when the biggest molds are the size of a small refrigerator and weigh several tons.

As a contract manufacturer, acquiring our own warehouse became relevant and in 2015 the factory was expanded. About 500 square meters of new storage space was added. At the same time, the old production facilities were renovated. In 2016, the machine base was strengthened again and a new 160 t Engel injection molding machine was ordered. Behind Camteam's success is a very competent and committed staff. Most of the personnel have been in the industry throughout their working careers. In this way, the total experience period is several hundred years. The entrepreneurs of Varsinais Suomen chose Camteam as the entrepreneur of the year in Kaarina 2015.

The future is built today

In the 2010s, we have invested significantly in developing our competitiveness. We have expanded and restructured our production and warehouse facilities to better meet the increasing demand and the customers' requirements for LEAN production.

We have invested in our machine and equipment base to develop the production of both molds and plastic parts. To guarantee our competitiveness as Finland's leading mold manufacturer, we have renewed our CNC machining and EDM centers. In order to develop the injection molding process, we have built a new mold cooling equipment and renewed the nitrogen equipment for gas-assisted injection molding.

Our design and radiation software is constantly updated, which enables a small margin of error and quality that meets the requirements.
